Guitar Duo Eclectico About George Sawyn... |
George Sawyn has been playing guitar since roughly 1964; his influences & inspirations
include Chet Atkins, Wes Montgomery, Pat Metheny, The Beatles, The Ventures, and
many others. George is mainly self-taught, but has occasionally gotten some "real" education in various areas of guitar. He studied classical guitar in college, took several months of jazz guitar lessons with Frank Dawson, and has taken part in an 8-week beginning Flamenco guitar class at Old Town School of Folk Music and the Jamie Aebersold Jazz Workshop. George on GDE: "The duo is fun; we do have certain things worked out, but the 'Let's See What Happens' aspect is the really enjoyable thing for me. About the only thing that live musicians can still do that computers or recordings can't is "wing it:" just improvise and see where it goes. And if you have people with that same attitude in the band, you can come up with some really creative things. And then if you have people with that attitude in the audience, well, then it can really take off." |

On GDE's live performances, George plays a Washburn C-64CE, which is miked and also
runs directly to the sound board. On the duo's CD, George plays a Hiroshi Tamura classical guitar made in 1971, quite possibly his favorite of all his guitars. |
